Great beach to go and hang out for the day. Water is calm and beautiful. If you take a long walk on the beach you will often see honu (sea turtles) basking in the sun. Also next door is a very fun venue called Lava Lava Beach club. It has an amazing view of the ocean, happy hour, and good food. It…

“KE-AWA-IKI BEACH – This black sand-and-gravel-lined bay is never crowded due to the access-to get there you have to walk on a lava road half the time, and rougher ‘a’a trail to the right of the fence the other half. Few on the island even know it’s there. (It takes about 15 minutes to walk to it.) The water off the left (south) is clear and offers good snorkeling when calm, but be wary of currents. The best snorkeling is usually in the center of the bay. If you keep walking past the southern edge of the bay, there are lots of tide-pools to explore on an older, smooth pahoehoe lava shelf at low tide. Past the right (northern) side of Ke-awa-iki Bay is Pueo Bay, lined with black pebbles and semi-protected with nice swimming on calm days. Located 20 miles north of Kailua-Kona just after mile marker 79.”
