This place is all the way down in Jelutong, maybe you can pass by if you're going to the night market (pasar malam) on friday evenings. They serve chinese porridge with innards and the staff don't speak english, but please don't be afraid, the taste trumps all.

Super famous with the locals, it might be hard to get a seat. They serve noodle soups. I would recommend the one with the pork innards, but if that sounds unappealing, just order without the innards. They also serve yam rice in the afternoon.

This bar is close to the house and is way classier and calmer then the ones on Chulia Street and Love Lane. Usually full and a bit touristy but the drinks are seriously good. They usually stock up on craft beer as well.

So if you're going to hike up to Penang Hill (which is highly recommended) the main trail starts at the moon gate over at the botanical gardens, you will find plenty of information to guide you on that route if you search the internet. HOWEVER, there is a second trail that very few people use and which will lead you through an amazing abandoned Buddhist worship place. Ask us for directions to find it you are interested =)
