Aspen is a 4 hour drive from Denver. I would go in late September or early October to see the foliage in Maroon Bells. Stay in Aspen or Snowmass Village and explore the John Denver Sanctuary and many beautiful hiking trails.

Largely residential area but do check out the large Wash park. You’ll find many people jogging, walking, playing, relaxing in the park. There is a boathouse and you can rent a small pedal boat to enjoy the 15 acre lake.
