Some of the best Chinese food can be found in this area of Kolkata. And by Chinese food, we mean Indian Chinese of course ... which arguably is outstanding. The origin of Tangra (also known as China Town) is historic. It begins with authentic Chinese settlers moving to Kolkata years ago. Settling in, setting up authentic experiences which live on as a tradition (Ex: Chinese New Year) & ultimately adapting to Indian culture. Overall though, this is best recognised for its outstanding food. Enjoy !

Perhaps the world's biggest re-sale book market can be found in College Street. While the Typhoon Amphan took a big toll millions of books were lost at that time, the place still has gems that simply cannot be found anywhere else. Ex: Perhaps the first edition Sherlock Holmes ? Or a rare copy of Tagore's Poems? And while you are at it do drop into Coffee House which has some of the finest 'Cutlets' and Coffee in town :)

Markets to visit

Kolkata comes with a history of fabulous markets. Highly reccomended is New Market, which has well been there for close to a century... but still the place to go to discover stuff that you might not find anywhere in India. Ex: That Hendrix LP or a Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon LP can be found near Free School Street adjoining New Market. Alternately, drop into Gariahat market for an authentic Kol feel. If up market malls are more your taste, Quest Mall, Acropolis Mall or South City is the way to go :)
