This small cove has a rich natural and cultural history including Aboriginal middens, fossils and the remains of Victoria's first cement works. It was named after the 15 million year old fossils found here, examples of marine animals preserved in fine gray clays known as Gellibrand Marls or Balcombe Clays, which can be seen in the cliffs to the north. Don't dig or remove the fossils, though you may get a great photo of some of the washed out shells.
Not for swimmers, but an enyoyable walk down hill towards the rocky beach. Keep your eyes open and take a close look at the cliffs for some fossils. Great place to take the kids and go exploring. If you do some research or read the great history plaques, you can get a sense of the past. Closed sturdy shoes are a must (we recommend don't go in your thongs!).

We love going to the Rip Curl Outlet store in Rye, we always manage to find something at a good price that we need. Our teens particularly love this shop. It's their first stop for bathers that's for sure. Also sells reduced price wetsuits, general clothing, hats, towels and anything really you need for the beach.

It's their first stop for bathers that's for sure. Also sells reduced price wetsuits, general clothing, hats, towels and anything really you need for the beach.

Our kids just love going there and looking for things for their holiday, whether its a tshirt or a boogie board, you'll no doubt find something you want or need. It makes for a good rainy-day activity too, we give our kids $5 and a challenge to find the "best bargain" - then we enjoy our looking around :)

We often go here when we are shopping at the Rosebud Plaza, its on the outside of the shopping centre and has both indoor and outdoor seating. The staff are always friendly. It's also a great place to pick up a cake for a birthday!

Hawkes Farm is a family run business growing vegetables and strawberries on 140 acres. At the Farmgate Store you can find not only produce grown at Hawkes Farm, but a handpicked selection of fresh produce from all over the Mornington Peninsula.
They have a small vegie patch for the kids to scratch around in, with a beautiful old Farmall tractor parked there – great for photos of your trip to the farm!
