The family that started Boda originally opened a a “typical Thai restaurant” but one that stood out for it freshness and quality. After a few years they closed that down and opened Boda - I have never been to Thailand - but the food is like nothing I had had before - literally around the corner - it is worth trying out.

A true treasure - Miyake and their sister restaurant Bao Bao Dumpling house are just wonderful gems you will not regret discovering.

Okay I may be biased - (my children went to school with the owners kids) but Local 188 and Salvage (their BBQ place further down Congress). are true Portland institutions.

My family has spent a lot of time at Yosuku.. in fact for my now college age children it was their favorite restaurant when they were elementary school age - (that is what happens when you raise children in downtown Portland). We have a lot of sushi options in Portland and this is the best.

All I can say is if you appreciate good coffee Tandem is worth the long line you will most likely need to stand in.

My favorite seafood meal of all time is the Scallops in Pernod and Cream at Street and Co. it has been on the menu for 30 years. It is just seafood and worth trying to get a reservation. Other options for seafood is Scales (equally awesome) or for a kitschy fun venue and if you are just looking for Lobster dinner etc - look up DiMillos.

Neighborhoods
Roughly a mile easy walk through town to the Old Port. A great combination of stores and restaurants. Once you are there it is worth continuing on to walk around the Eastern Prom Trail.

Sightseeing
A lovely 1/2 mile walk from our house is this beautiful Olmstead deigned park. A fantastic farmers market is held Wed/Sat 7am - 1pm Sring- Fall. You can ice skate in the winter or take in open air Shakespeare in the Summer.
