Neighborhoods

In the shadow of the Acropolis is Plaka, the most picturesque and oldest district of Athens, with continuous habitation from antiquity until today. The neighborhood of the gods, as it is called, is like a trip to old Athens adorned with antiquities, historic buildings and Byzantine churches. In the part of Plaka towards the Acropolis there are Anafiotika. It is a district in Cycladic style, built by Anafiotes builders, who, in the second half of the 19th century, were looking for a district to build their houses, since in the rest of Athens the cost of renting or buying land was expensive for them.
