Point Nepean played a critical defence role from the 1880s through both World Wars. Closed to the public for more than 100 years, Point Nepean was also home to an historic Quarantine Station which has recently been opened to visitors. Here you can explore the tunnels, forts and gun emplacements from which the first allied shots of World War I and first Australian shots of World War II were fired. You can hire a bike to ride around Port Nepean – and it’s a great experience to do so.

Tree-surfing … if you love adrenalin rushes it’s simple – you just HAVE to do it! Here you have a rare opportunity to do zip-lining in Australia: an exhilarating adventure climbing course set in the beautiful woodland Sculpture Park of the Enchanted Adventure Garden. The adventure begins from a 10-meter elevation, high in the tree canopy, and you traverse through suspended rope bridges and wire balances. The feeling as you you surf through the trees on a thrilling zipline is out of this world! The property is amazingly beautiful, the experience world-class and I highly recommended it as a “must do!”

There are several walking tracks throughout the reserve. Native wildflowers and grass are abundant in the reserve along with 45 different species of birds. The lake is the home to a number of waterbirds and the odd Koala can sometimes be seen in the Eucalyptus trees. If you want to get to the lookout without the steep climb, I would suggest either starting the walk from Allison Street or Canadian Bay Road. Either way is a short distance to the lookout although Canadian Bay Road is the nearer of the two, but you may miss some of the awesome views. My favourite (non-wine) horse-riding tour is with Gunnamatta Trail Rides. The horses are extremely well kept and maintained, very gentle and the scenery along the beach is breathtaking – as is the canter along the beach if you are competent enough. One of my other favourite things to do is make sure you get to the Peninsular Hot Springs after so that you are not sore for a week! Gunnamatta have special deals going for this.
