Tandi village is at the confluence of Bhaga and Chandra rivers in the Pattan valley. It is a perfect spot to admire the picturesque surroundings of valley. Tandi (7,499 ft) is where Draupadi is said to have given up her body (Tan Dehan). A myth attests that this is where the Chandra (Moon) and Bhaga (Sun God) got married. Indeed the Chandra- Bhaga confluence is where one of the mightiest rivers to rise in India, the Chenab, is born. The road to the bridge is stacked with food shacks. Tandi is an important village located about 10 Kms from Keylong. Tandi is the only place on Manali-Leh highway where you can get fuel. The next gas station is 320 KMs away in Karu. Travelers heading to Leh need to tank-up here and also carry some extra fuel along as vehicles give considerable less mileage due to bad roads on this stretch.

This is the lovely forested valley of the Parvati River, which flows into the Beas near Bhuntar. Manikaran is located in the Parvati Valley on river Parvati, northeast of Bhuntar in the Kullu District of Himachal Pradesh. It is at an altitude of 1760 m and is located 4 km ahead of Kasol and about 45 km from Kullu and about 35 km from Bhunter. This small town attracts tourists visiting Manali and Kullu to its hot springs and pilgrim centres. An experimental geothermal energy plant has also been set up here. Manikaran is a pilgrimage centre for Hindus and Sikhs. The Hindus believe that Manu recreated human life in Manikaran after the flood, making it a sacred area. It has many temples and a gurudwara. There are temples of the Hindu deities Rama, Krishna, and Vishnu. The area is well known for its hot springs and its beautiful landscape. According to legend, when the Hindu God Shiva and his consort Parvati were walking in the valley, Parvati dropped one of her earrings. The jewel was seized by Shesha, the serpent deity, who then disappeared into the earth with it. Shesha only surrendered the jewel when Shiva performed the cosmic dance, the Tandava and shot the jewel up through the water. Apparently, jewels continued to be thrown up in the waters at Manikaran until the 1905 Kangra earthquake. The legend goes that Shiva and Parvati lived here. When Parvati lost her earrings in the river Parvati, they were traced to the snake god, Shesh Nag. Shesh Nag then snorted, releasing the earrings and creating Manikaran’s hot springs — waters so hot you can cook rice in them, so pure that they’re said to cure ailments.

Martin's is run by Mr. Martin K. Austrian national who is married locally and is running this restaurant together with his family . Martin's was always on our list to visit due to their renowned Roasted Chicken, and I can claim that it was well worth the hype. The whole chicken was well roasted to perfection and served with fries and 2 variety of sauces (the sweet-chilly sauce was mind-blowing). Please see my pics to see how delicious it looks and it indeed was. The chicken needs to booked in advance as it is available in limited quantity - we called a day before to book it.
