This sanctuary is dedicated to saving the wolves in the wild by carefully breeding to ensure a diverse population. They work closely with other sanctuaries across the US. First there is a presentation and slide show which is very informative. The group is next escorted to view 2 wolf enclosures, one with a pair of Mexican Gray Wolves and one with a pair of Rocky Mountain Gray Wolves. Very educational and fun.

Best pies in town! Mom’s Apple Pie is so delicious and made from apples grown in Julian. 2 locations - on Main street and Wynola (4510 Hgwy 78). Our favorite - rhubarb-strawberry. All pies are available w/ “flakey” or “crumb” top. Full of perfect flavor, nice crunchy crust and incredible tasty fresh fruit. They also got sugar free ones. You can watch the pies being made through the window. Julian Apple Festival in September/October.

Since 1963 this bakery has been serving costumers that pass by Santa Isabel, California. It is nestled in a small shopping area where Julian Pie Company and Don's Market where you can extend your culinary adventuring. Large selection of breads, desserts and sandwiches made to order. Prices are fair and service is fairly fast. The walnut and apple tarts, apple tarts, squawk bread are some of the items we really enjoy. Plenty of parking including parking for larger vehicles or if you are towing a trailer.

City/town information

Julian is one of those little towns that will charm your driver into pulling over and parking the car, just so you can walk around. Go shopping - Antique stores and local craft shops line the town's main street. Sample Some Local Apples: Julian is at its most charming (and therefore busiest) during the fall when the leaves change color, and local apples ripen. In September and October, you can stop by an apple orchard to sample local varieties not found elsewhere. Visit the California Wolf Center: You can tour this facility which is home to several packs of North American and Mexican gray wolves. Catch Gold Fever: Explore the history of Southern California's Mother Lode, that short-lived gold rush of 1869. Tours at the Eagle Mining Company will show you the underground operations and the gold milling process. You can also view the antique gold mining equipment on display, and you can be a miner for a day as you pan for gold. You can also visit the Julian Mining Company as you indulge your inner treasure-seeker. Get Obsessed With Dark Skies at the Observer's Inn: Their Sky Tour is pure geek fun at its best. You can visit a private astronomical observatory and enjoy the view through their research-grade telescopes. The Julian Apple Days Festival in late September attracts visitors from throughout the state. With wine tastings, games, and activities, it's fun for everyone, but that also means the town fills up with tourists. In December, you can enjoy the festivities at the Julian Country Christmas, including Victorian Christmas Teas and holiday home tours.

Anza-Borrego has a long human history, a story that began thousands of years ago with the Kumeyaay and Cahuilla people. In 1774 Jaun Bautista de Anza journeyed through the present day Borrego Valley on his quest to find an inland route to Spanish settlements on the California coast. The place that we now know as Borrego Springs, the small community in the desert, came about much later, and is a relative newcomer when viewed against the backdrop of these historical events. Approximately 40 min drive to desert from Julian town. Check out Galletta Meadows and sculptor Ricardo Breceda's work. It is unquestionably the home of some of nature’s finest desert beauty, as the starting point for exploring the 650,000-acre Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. The Wind Caves and the Anza-Borrego Mud Caves are phenomenal natural wonders for visitors to view and explore. The Anza-Borrego Desert has one of the most extensive mud cave systems in the world, containing approximately 22 known caves and 9 slot canyons. Some extend over 1,000 feet, varying in width, with ceilings as high as 80 feet. Go to Slot, Hellhole and Coyote Canyons. Coyote Canyon is one of the few places in the desert that contains a year-round running stream, making it a prime location for watching wildlife. Borrego Art Institute.
