Public transport is a bit less hassle then going into Utrecht by car.
If you do go here by car then a good midway option is to park at the P+R Westraven.

It's possible to get a personal ov chipcard if you plan on using public transport for more then a few days (https://www.ov-chipkaart.nl/purchase-an-ov-chipkaart/apply-for-personal-ov-chipkaart.htm). There's also an option to add a discount for local public transport during outside rush hour (U-OV Dal Voordeel).
