Best Local Market on island this was the first and is still the best for locally sourced organic veggies , locally caught fish, and sushi rolls. Locally made jams and breads too.

AKA Kua Bay is one of the most beautiful white sand beaches on island. It is just 15 minutes from the house , has parking and showers. There is excellent snorkeling and body boarding here. Try to go early to avoid crowds or late to take in the sunset with a beach chair and soda.

Sightseeing
It is a drive for sure but well worth it! I recommend leaving in the early morning around 8 and traveling south to see Green Sands Beach, Black Sands Beach and South Point before arriving at the park around 2. See the crater, hike around and then go back through Hilo to arrive around dinner. Drive the saddle road to return home. The saddle road was redone by the military a few years ago and is now a super highway rwith proper lighting and is not the treacherous road it once was. Otherwise, spend the night at the lodge and return in the morning.

Cutest Town to the north that has wonderful local shops and a Topanga Canyon vibe (only so cal folks with get that analogy). There is an awesome vegan restaurant and the best coffee shop ever.

Home to the Hawaiian Paneole or wranglers this is now famous for its farmers market and Parker Ranch center. Great stop on your way to Waipaio Valley. The local brew pub “Big Island Brew Pub” makes an incredible burger.

World renowned for its star gazing and center for astronomy this adventure is not to be missed . It is an easy 90 minute drive now thanks to the newly redone Saddle road. Even if it is raining here at the house it will be super clear at the visitors center. Most nights there are hobbyist with their telescopes eager to show you what they have their eyes one. If you are really up for an adventure and have a 4 wheel drive you can drive all the way to the summit. Bring a jacket because it is very cold and windy . Sunset and sunrise is unreal!
