Blue Hill Mountain
On the southern (left as you face the water) end of the lake is Blue Hill. There are several trails there. They are part of the Blue Hill Heritage Trust. It’s a 15 minute drive to park. There are gorgeous views of the ocean and then back to the lake as well. You get there by taking a right out of the driveway, go 6.5 miles to the stop sign at the end of 176. Turn right onto 172 South toward Blue Hill. Go about 5.5 miles and take a right onto Mountain Road (opposite Blue Hill Fairgrounds). Then go about .5 mile until you see the parking area (on the left) in front of an open sloping grassy field (on the right). This is for the Southface Trail, not the Osgood Trail further down the road. There is a map on this link that details it:

There is a gorgeous, secluded beach in East Blue Hill called Curtis Cove. Drive into Blue Hill on 172, take a left onto 176, go past the East Blue Hill Library (quaintest library ever), down a hill and usually there are a few cars on the side of the road on the right. This is a more quiet, downeast type beach, you can swim, picnic, look for crabs, rocks to climb on, but it’s not a sandy beach with a restroom and snack shack if you get our drift.

There is a gorgeous, secluded beach in East Blue Hill called Curtis Cove. Drive into Blue Hill on 172, take a left onto 176, go past the East Blue Hill Library (quaintest library ever), down a hill and usually there are a few cars on the side of the road on the right. This is a more quiet, downeast type beach, you can swim, picnic, look for crabs, rocks to climb on, but it’s not a sandy beach with a restroom and snack shack if you get our drift.
There is a fun hike in Deer Isle called the Barred Island Preserve managed by the Island Heritage Trust (you park at Goose Cove Resort) and owned by The Nature Conservancy. It ends in a gorgeous double-sided beach (time the tides right to make it even better).

The Down East Sunrise Trail is 87 miles long, open to bikes, horses, ATVs, hikers and even more in the winter. Travels through a landscape of forest, marshes, habitat for moose, beavers, wild turkeys and white tail deer. The trail entrance is located next to 150 High Street in Ellsworth (next to the LL Bean Outlet).
