Food Scene

Best prime rib on the beach. This restaurant has been a favorite of my family for many years. It's not trendy or chic, but it's a good solid steak, seafood and baked potato type place.

Great Tex-Mex place. Something about Mexican food and the beach just go together! Strong margaritas made with fresh-squeezed limes. Everything's good here -- spicy queso, grilled snapper tacos ...

The only gay bar on this side of the bridge. This is it. It's small, often crowded on weekends, but unpretentious and friendly.

Sightseeing

Take a tour boat (there are several) out to the island for the day. There's nothing there but pristine surf and sand. Pack your own lunch, sunblock and be prepared to take out everything you bring in.

Good place to hike or fish just across Phillips Inlet. Old lodge was built as a retreat for Alabama textile workers, and it was one of the few places African Americans could come to the beach then.
