    Guri2019-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • Egy szép visszavonulás a gyönyörű skót határokhoz. A ház mindent megtett, amit megígért és többet. Tökéletes egy csendes családi hétvégére az országban. Ben nagyon hasznos és gyors válasz volt.

    Marni2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Ez egy kellemes, meleg és kényelmes nyaraló, és élveztük a tartózkodást. Ben mindent megadott, amire szükségünk volt, és rengeteg hasznos információt tartalmazott a ház és a környező területről.

The Tower rooms are in a refurbished historic defensive tower (dating from 1574) providing a mini castle experience. Through a huge stone entrance, into an inner panelled entrance hall and through a private door up an ancient and narrow staircase to a tiny sitting area with shower room and kitchenette off. Finally up again with a spiral stone staircase leading to a romantic and secluded upper chamber. Medieval and bijoux - a micro experience of being a Laird or Lady of the House for the night.
We are based by the River Leader (also known as the Leader Water) in an exceptionally beautiful part of the Scottish Borders. The locale is littered with monuments, fine walks, stately homes, lovely shopping towns like Melrose and St. Boswells, hills to walk up and beautiful scenery. All this within an hours journey to Edinburgh by car or by train.

Perfect for two, the Old Mill is a modern, cosy and eclectic conversion of 1700s water mill near the Royal Burgh of Lauder. This romantic bolthole is spacious and inviting - it's somewhere you can slow down and retreat from busy lives. Soak in a deep bath or rainforest shower, enjoy Meraki spa products, warmth from the woodburning stove, drink good coffee, cook, bake, read, or simply relax in the space around you. Edinburgh is just 40 mins away; most of the Scottish Borders is within 20 mins.
Dod Mill’s old, industrial water mill has undergone a thoroughly modern redesign as a rural escape for two. It’s unique and stylish interiors, thick stone walls, spacious living space and mezzanine bedroom with feature bath make this a wonderful place to retreat from day-to-day life. The Old Mill retains many original features including the stable-style door at the entrance. You’ll pass through the porch into the large and open living space on the ground floor. The kitchen and dining areas open out into a double-height living space with a huge woodburning stove as the focal point of the room. Decorated throughout in Farrow & Ball, the space is light yet cosy with soft grey painted floors (underfloor heating), interesting fabrics and handmade shutters. The living area has a large sofa-bed (add guests on request), a thick vintage Moroccan rug, and some interesting decorative touches like a French balloon mould and antique chapati rolling pins. You’ll find a TV with Freesat (all standard UK channels), a DVD player, board games and a selection of books and maps. WiFi is available throughout the property. The rich aubergine-coloured kitchen is equipped for relaxed, holiday cooking. It has a sociable kitchen island, fan oven, 2-ring hob, dishwasher, a large fridge-freezer, kettle, toaster and a Nespresso machine for those in need of their daily caffeine fix. You’ll find artisan-made mugs, crockery, cutlery and glassware, as well as a cake stand, wooden boards and a good selection of serving platters and dishes. The large oak-topped dining table seats 6 so there is plenty of space to spread out, or invite friends over from other properties at Dod Mill (or in the area). You can also ask for the table to be extended to 12 if you’d like to entertain a larger group while staying in the Old Mill. Head upstairs to the mill’s original mezzanine floor, now converted to a bedroom. The super-comfy bed is king size and is made-up with anti-allergy bedding and pure Egyptian cotton linens. Have a long soak in the bedroom’s roll top bath, with Meraki spa-style products. The bath’s big enough to share, or enjoy on your own with a good book and a glass of wine. The en-suite shower room has a rainforest-style shower, soft-scented Meraki soap, shampoo and conditioner plenty of soft, fluffy towels. There is an additional “downstairs loo”. Head out the door by the woodburning stove and you’ll find an outdoor table and chairs and a small woodland garden area.
Old Mill sits within Dod Mill, a unique and interesting historic site in the Scottish Borders near Lauder. For over 300 years, this was home to an industrial water mill where wheat, barley and oats were milled. There is also a kiln house where the grain was dried before milling. Dod Mill is 4 miles from the Royal Burgh of Lauder - which has fantastic amenities for visitors. There is a gorgeous little deli, The Spotty Dog, a lovely fruit & veg shop, The Purple Plum, art gallery / coffee shop, pubs, bakery, post office, petrol station and small supermarket (Co-Op). Lauder is completed with its own fairytale castle (Thirlestane Castle). The Old Mill at Dod Mill is also very close to wonderful Scottish Borders towns and historic sites. Melrose, Kelso, St Boswells, Duns and Galashiels are all within 20 minutes and each have a rich history and you can enjoy lots of local festivals. Melrose Abbey, Kelso Abbey and Dryburgh Abbey are also each within 20-25 minutes. Other places of real note include the home of tartan, Lochcarron Visitor Centre, and the Borders Distillery & Visitor Centre (whisky and craft gin). The Borders has a number of superb festivals and events over the year, including the acclaimed Borders Book Festival, the Borders Art Fair, Tour of the Borders (cycling), the Great British Food Festival (at Floors Castle) to name a few. This comfortable and peaceful one-bedroom annexe is the perfect retreat for a couple. Situated in the pretty conservation village of Gavinton, a few miles outside Duns, the property sits on a 50-acre organic farm. Our annexe is spacious and relaxing, the ideal romantic rural escape. Edinburgh is just 50 mins away and there much to see in the Borders.
With the rapidly developing Coronavirus crisis and an increasing number of people self-isolating, our property could be the perfect escape for those wishing to avoid contact with others potentially infected or self-isolating. Our normal daily life here on the farm is virtually one of self-isolation and days go by when we do not come into contact with anyone, yet still being on the edge of and part of a small village of 300 inhabitants. We have 50 acres of farmland that you can walk around and look at the animals and hear the wildlife, without seeing another soul. Isolated beauty spots, hill walking, quiet beaches and river walks and lots of cycling can also be found around and about our property, again without having to come into close contact with another human. The annexe cottage is self-contained with private parking and its own separate entrance and therefore is ideal for escaping social contact without feeling too isolated from life and human habitation. The annexe cottage is deep cleaned thoroughly after every visit using alcohol and hydrogen peroxide products. This includes cleaning of all door handles and hard surfaces in addition to all kitchen equipment being re-washed after every guest visit. In nearby Duns (less than five minutes by car) there is a superb fresh fish and delicatessen shop, award winning butcher, small Co-op supermarket, pharmacy, newsagents and wine store/ice cream parlour. All of which have continued to be well stocked in spite of the reported panic buying elsewhere. We would also be more than happy to assist with any shopping you may require during your stay if you require it. Our farmhouse annexe has been newly renovated to a high standard. With underfloor heating throughout, Egyptian Cotton bedding and Hungarian goose down pillows, in a tranquil rural environment, we are sure you will sleep well and enjoy your retreat here. We provide guests with complimentary organic free-range eggs, cake, tea/coffee, and milk on arrival. We have bookshelves filled with a selection of books and a number of board games to play. Our living room has an Aromatherapy Humidifier with lavender oil that guests can use throughout their stay. The farmhouse annexe offers a new kitchen with combi oven/grill/microwave, dishwasher, super speed Wifi, and outdoor seating area. Guests can enjoy the beautiful sunrises from the kitchen window (as shown in the photos). The living area has a Smart TV and a cosy wood burning stove with unlimited supply of wood. The bathroom has a powerful shower and bath and we provide soft, white, fluffy towels and lavender and geranium 'Faith in Nature' Shampoo, Conditioner and Body Wash. We provide maps, local tourist information and a walking route map of our farm. Guests have private off road parking right outside the annexe.
Alexa runs yoga classes at the yoga studio beside the annexe cottage on Mondays 9.45-11am, 6-7pm and Thursdays 6-7pm (£8 per class) which you are welcome to attend if there is space available. Private yoga lessons also available upon request. Gavinton has a number of beautiful walks and cycle routes nearby and is within walking distance (30 mins) of Duns, which is a lovely walk through the hills. The nearby River Tweed has excellent fishing and there are many horse riding stables nearby. In Duns there are a number of boutique coffee shops, pubs, takeaways, community cinema and restaurants. There is a lovely swimming pool with a sauna and fitness classes. In Duns there is plenty to do including a walk around and visit to the 14th Century Duns Castle, the Jim Clark Museum and the nearby Manderston and Paxton House. You can also visit the seaside town of Berwick-upon-Tweed which is a 25 min drive and has a train line to Edinburgh, Dunbar and Newcastle. Or simply relax and enjoy the slower pace of life.

Built in 2002 my home is modern yet comfortable and homely. I am offering a private bedroom with large double bed and private bathroom. If required I also have a single small bedroom available in addition which if required at the same time as the double bedroom, would be £25 inc of breakfast. The Cottage is on the outskirts of Lauder which offers a variety of shops, cafes, eateries and pubs.
The Cottage is on the outskirts of Lauder about ten minutes walk to the centre so there is little noise or light pollution. I share my home with a rescued Jack Russell who is very friendly. There are wonderful walks nearby around Thirlestane Castle (my neighbours) and the Southern Upland Way goes through Lauder. The Border towns of Melrose, Kelso and Jedburgh for example offer ruined abbeys, castles and historic sites amongst wonderful countryside.
About a quarter of a mile from Lauder town centre surrounded by farmland so it is situated ideally for a relaxing stay yet with easy access to Border towns.

We are within half an hour's drive from the beach and railway stations. You’ll love Stichill Stables because of the views and the peaceful location. Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travellers who have their car. We can also accommodate a child / third person if required. We are in a fairly rural location, the nearest shops, bars and restaurants being approximately four miles away in the town of Kelso in the Scottish Borders.
The cottage has one bedroom, which is located upstairs. The bedroom can be made up as a twin if desired, and could also accommodate a third person if need be. There is also a shower room upstairs. The ground floor is an open plan kitchen and living room. It has high ceilings and is bright and airy. A large, cosy, west facing room in the basement of a Georgian villa with private wet room. The house is situated in a convenient yet secluded location close to the centre of the small town of Duns. Ideally situated for outdoor pursuits, local wedding venues or exploring the Scottish Borders towns, abbeys and beaches. Please read the description below before booking.
Our guest room has underfloor heating, the private wet room is nearby, across the corridor (we supply bath robes). The large 1930s continental-style bed is made out of two bed frames and has two single duvets, usually arranged together (with a 2 inch gap between the mattrasses) but can be set up apart on request. The mattrasses measure 1mx2m each. We can also supply a cot (please advise at time of booking). A continental breakfast is served upstairs in our large kitchen/diner. Please note we are a busy household with 4 (well- behaved) children aged 9-18, we enjoy meeting new people though and staying with us is an informal affair where guests are treated as part of the family. Our home is close to the wedding venues of Wedderburn Castle (1.8 miles), Duns Castle (0.8 mile) and Manderston House (1.5 miles). Please note that we have been renovating the house for about six years now, doing most of the work ourselves, and some areas may still look a little faded! We are also a TV free zone.
Previous guests have commented that Duns reminds them of small French towns. It has an attractive Market Square with a good variety of shops and cafes. Duns has a vibrant community with events throughout the year. We are involved with a number of local organisations and will be able to advise you on local events if you wish.

Formerly the sculleries for Thirlestane Castle, this part of the South Wing has been beautifully transformed into a high-end one-bedroom apartment. Accessed from the mezzanine of the castle’s Cobbled Courtyard, guests look out over the castle gardens to the rear with double-height windows throughout. The traditional flagstone floor in the hallway is a reminder of the apartment’s past, as is the historic mangle which has been re-purposed into a beautiful hallstand. The soft greens of the gardens outside have inspired the restoration of the space and link the bedroom with the natural beauty of its surroundings. The stunning sleigh bed and wardrobe were used by the Maitland family in their private rooms. Luxurious, heavy fabric frames the three tall windows as the room is flooded with dappled light through the nearby trees. Guests can enjoy the ultimate luxury in the extremely spacious bathroom and relax in the free-standing roll-top bath. A warm and cosy feel is created in the sitting room with the red-earth toned walls and royal blue accents. As in the bedroom, a large portrait from the castle collection reflects the grandeur of the castle and brings a sense of history to the space. Guests are made to feel part of the Thirlestane family with personal photos in the hallway showing the Maitland family competing in the show-jumping and eventing competitions at several Olympic Games. Completed in early 2019, this newly-refurbished apartment offers a cosy retreat for those wishing to explore the Scottish Borders.
The apartment is just 10-minutes' walk from the pretty town of Lauder. Here you will find a number of shops including convenience stores, a butcher, bakery and fruit and veg shop. There are also several pubs, a cafe/gallery and a restaurant. The Scottish Borders is so popular because of the sheer range of activities packed into such a small and accessible region - historic houses and castles, exciting festivals, arts and crafts, delicious local produce and miles of rolling hills, beautiful valleys and the Berwickshire coastline. For those that love the outdoors there is a variety of different activities available close at hand including horse riding, exhilarating cycling routes, fishing, golf and spectacular walking – the Southern Upland Way crosses the Thirlestane Estate. There is a small community leisure centre in Lauder which has a fully equipped gym that is available on a ‘pay as you go’ basis. The Scottish Borders is also renowned for its variety of crafts and is famous for producing quality textiles such as tweed, cashmere and tartan. Take a visit to a traditional workshop and workers will be more than happy to demonstrate their skills. There are several places throughout the Borders that offer visitor experiences including Lochcarron in Selkirk. The town of Hawick is the home of cashmere and there are several mills to visit here along with the Borders Distillery. Lots of the local attractions have children’s programmes such as Paxton House, Bowhill and Edinburgh Castle and many of the local towns have special places for small people. Watch out for Pot-a-Doodle Do near Berwick, the Scottish Borders Donkey Sanctuary near St Boswells and the opportunity to monkey around swinging between the trees at Go Ape near Pebbles. During the summer, the town’s main event is the Lauder Common Riding Festival where today’s residents commemorate the times when their forbearers patrolled the boundaries of their settlements on horseback. Join in the week-long festival and watch as standard-bearers elected by the townspeople enact ancient ceremonies and experience the exhilaration of seeing hundreds of riders galloping past amid a flurry of banners.

The Little House on the Hill is a bijou part of this gorgeous stone-built house on a farm. It is the right hand wing of the house in the picture. A perfect place for chilling out, being outdoors, accessing Edinburgh, and moseying around Border towns. Cosy & modern, lovely open plan kitchen & lounge. The larger house next door is also available.
Little House on the Hill is available for 2-4 guests on a self catering basis. The cottage forms part of Hillhouse farm in the Scottish Borders which is also home to a few thousand sheep. The Sutherland family have farmed here for over 80 years across 3 generations. It's a fantastic place - sitting high on the hills overlooking Lauderdale it really does have tremendous views. The Little House on the Hill is an old shepherd's house but it's been refurbished recently so now you'll find it to be modern & cosy. It has a lovely open plan kitchen / living room, two good sized bedrooms and a small shower room. The house next door, the House on the Hill, is also available - it has virtually the same facilities as the Little House on the Hill but is much larger with an extra bathroom and separate kitchen and lounge. There are interconnecting doors between the two houses which we unlock if both properties are being rented by one party. The House on the Hill can, of course, also be rented completely separately.
Staying on a working sheep farm in the Lauderdale area is a 'best of all worlds' location: it's the perfect place for chilling out, being outdoors, accessing Edinburgh (including the Festival), and moseying around historic Border towns. There is so much to do, you just have to work out how much you want to pack in!

Lovely walks direct from the farmhouse. Kelso has many privately owned shops, and recently a 'micro brewery' has opened in the town, although drinking laws have now become stricter in Scotland so a taxi may be required, i can provide a number for a chap in the village. There is a wide variety of things to do locally from the energetic mountain bikers, or the walkers to those looking for a bit of down time, or if you are attending a local sporting event, ie the rugby or racing at Kelso or at a wedding at one of the fabulous local venues, we are ideally placed to serve you.
The farmhouse is approx 6 miles from Kelso town, and 2 miles from the village of Hume. We are up on a hill adjacent to 'Hareheugh Craigs' a site of special scientific interest. The local supermarket is Sainsburys, and they deliver to us. Further afield are Tesco and Asda both of whom deliver to us. The town has many fine independent shops, bakers, butchers, craft beer and many restaurants and pubs.

This charming one-bedroom apartment is set in the heart of the South Wing. It takes its name from the moor behind the castle that is resplendent in purple heather during late summer and early Autumn. Glenburnie was also the name of a horse bred by the Maitland family which went on to become European Champion in three-day eventing and which was ridden by local eventer Ian Stark. A portrait of the horse is reflected back into the sitting room by a large mirror in the hallway. The spacious bedroom has been finished with gentle greens and accents of pink and red creating a calming space. Statement pieces of furniture from the castle collection have been used including the dressing table which was formally the base for a spinet harpsichord. Once the castle’s Housekeeper’s Room, the original Victorian range in the sitting room has been sympathetically restored with soft, modern lighting to add to the relaxing ambience. This range was long forgotten about and uncovered during the renovation. The open-plan space is dominated by large portraits by George and John Scougall from the castle collection featuring two of the castle’s forbears. Finished in early 2019 this apartment is one of the most recently-refurbished in the castle and provides a luxurious, romantic base from which to explore the Scottish Borders.

Join in the week-long festival and watch as standard-bearers elected by the townspeople enact ancient ceremonies and experience the exhilaration of seeing hundreds of riders galloping past amid a flurry of banners.
