Point of Interest
“Torre de Don Carles. A place of great tourist interest is this tower erected in the mid 16th century, in the days of the lord of Taradell, Carles de Cruïlles and Vilademany, from whom he borrowed his name. Located between the Placa and the streets of Quintana and Guillem de Mont-rodon, it raises the Torre de Don Carles Tower, also known as the Tower of the prison. The tower of late Gothic style had the function of guard tower and defense and was possibly the beginning of a fortification work. It served until modern times as the prison of the area.”

“Taradell was born, like the majority of the towns of the Old Catalonia, around the Romanesque church of Sant Genís. La Sagrera was a sacred land located around the church and included a thirty-foot-wide floor strip around its perimeter. The first documented buildings were 'sagrers', small constructions where the harvest from the farms were kept to prevent them from being stolen. Over time, it became a small nucleus where, within its limited space, there were granaries, houses and a cemetery. In the 14th century there was already evidence of some houses built outside this area.”

“The chapel of Santa Llúcia, located in the center of the old town and the square that bears its name, was built between 1547 and 1561. It is a small Gothic late building, which consists of a single nave , Covered with ribbed nipples and polygonal apse. The main façade is facing the west and is crowned by a small bell tower with two eyes, and the entrance door is from the Renaissance. The whole chapel is painted with ornate floral motifs. The chapel, in addition, served during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries as a place of meetings or assemblies of the Weavers Guild.”
