Located in the heart of The Oakwood Historic District in Downtown Raleigh, NC, Sally's Suite (Apt #1) is a fun and unique private studio apartment in the converted former sun parlor of the Historic John C. Winder House c1872. The neighborhood has the highest "Walkscore" in Raleigh and is located 10 minutes from the state capitol and everything Downtown. We're a 5 minute walk from all the restaurants, bars and shops of Person St. and Seaboard Station.

Located in the heart of The Oakwood Historic District in Downtown Raleigh, NC, Sally's Suite is a fun and unique private studio apartment in the converted former sun parlor of the Historic John C. Winder House c1872. Originally built as a dwelling for Mr. and Mrs. Winder, their 10 children, 2 son in laws, a grandchild, a cook a maid and a nanny, the 5,000 sf old home was converted to apartments in about 1915 and once contained as many as 11 separate dwelling units. Sally's Suite is now one of 7 private residences in the home. While each of the six residents have lived there at least three years, and 50 brand new condos were built and occupied right across the street, this is a city apartment on a well traveled street. We have had well over 250 very happy guests. But if you and / or your dog are very sensitive about noise, please beware. This apartment may not be for you.

We have owned the property for nearly 20 years and live less than a block away in a Historic home where we also operate another Airbnb called The Little Nest. We have completed many substantial upgrades and improvements to the classic old Winder House.during the last 5 years as downtown Raleigh has exploded with growth and fun things to do.

The Winder House is now home to some of Raleigh's most interesting, intelligent and talented 25 - 40 year old artists, musicians , engineers, sales people and hospitality managers who work in a variety of jobs downtown including some of the best restaurants, bars, hotels and retail stores.

We furnished the apartment for our daughter Sally while she was completing her masters in Social Work in Austin, TX with the thought and hope that she'd return to Raleigh to live and work. But since Sally's return to Raleigh was delayed by the fun and excitement of a great job, a great new boy next door and other fun and wonderful things to do and enjoy in New Orleans,LA, we decided to create another Airbnb to share with friends old and new who visit Downtown Raleigh. Sally has since married that boy next door, moved back to Raleigh and now is the mother of our 2 little granddaughters. They loved our neighborhood so much that they bought a home a few blocks away. But so many people have loved our dog friendly Sally's suite Airbnb that we decided to keep it as an Airbnb.

Sally's Suite is a great Downtown Raleigh "getaway." and an easy walk or free "R Line" ride to the Downtown Districts of Seaboard Station, Glenwood South, The Warehouse District, Fayetteville St.and Capital Square Historic District. It is also very close to the downtown amphitheater. Progress Energy Center for Performing Arts. The Convention Center, The State Capital and Legislature buildings, The Natural Science Museum, The History Museum and all of Raleigh's best restaurants, bars, parks, galleries and gardens.

This quaint full roomy studio apartment includes a private bathroom with shower, a queen bed, a desk and chair and comfy chairs for relaxing, reading or watching TV. There's a nicely equipped kitchenette, (NOT A FULL KITCHEN and probably not suitable for full time cooking if for more than a few days) with dishes and silverware, utensils, a small refrigerator with freezer, a microwave, a cool nu-wave induction burner ("As Seen on TV" and the thing works great - there is NO Stove with oven) with pots and pans, a toaster oven, a coffee pot and a small table and chairs.

There is room for one car off street and other unlimited free parking a block away. Take Polk into the neighborhood to the end of the block. Thats our Yellow house on the corner of Polk and Bloodworth. Turn left on Bloodworth St. and pay attention to the signs. Public transportation will bring you from the airport for $2.00 Monday - Saturday and you can either walk or take the free R Line shuttle the 8 or so blocks to the nearest stop which is only 2 blocks away from Sally's Suite.

This is Raleigh's oldest and coolest neighborhood. It is full of smart creative people. Many are essentric fun people who live close by and there are lots of beautiful Historic Homes.

We're very young at heart boomers. We love to laugh. We also love travel, good wine, good music, good conversation, good food and interesting people. We have lived in Raleigh's oldest and coolest Historic District for over 25 years and have watched, enjoyed and participated in the resurgence of Downtown Raleigh. We love sharing Raleigh's treasures with friends and guests.

Our philosophy as hosts is to provide "great getaways which are cozy like a bed and breakfast, but anonymous like a hotel". We don’t bother our guests on purpose and respect our guests privacy. But we're more than willing to offer suggestions on fun things to enjoy and the "insider scoop" on the best of the best to see and things to do in our towns. We’ve created Guidebooks which highlight some of our favorite places. We really love to get to know the real local culture from locals when we travel and enjoy offering the same opportunity to our guests. So by all means call us if you need us or would like to chat. Otherwise we'll give you your space which we know people love since we often don’t even hear from or speak with our guests..

You'll love The Little Nest as your Downtown Raleigh get away. It’s above the carriage house behind our 145 year old historic home. If you have a 4 legged dog kid, you’ll love our “dog friendly” Airbnb one block up the street called Sally’s Suite. If you need a little more room for yourself and your 4 legged pal, we also have a one bedroom apartment with a fenced back yard called Downtown Creekside Retreat. We now also offer a high end luxury Airbnb called Capitol Square Garden Sanctuary. It is right downtown and one block from the state Capitol. This property which requires a minimum rental period of 30 days. It has been highly desirable to people moving to or considering moving to Raleigh, people working here temporarily and remote workers.

New Bern Property
We owned The William Gaskins House on the Neuse River in Downtown New Bern since the about 2000 and now have a partner who lives close by and helps operate the house/ Airbnb. It is right in the middle of the coolest Historic District in NC's colonial capital. It is a fun casual and very enjoyable place for your visit with family, friends or business associates. The house flooded in 2018 during Hurricane Florence and the downstairs was a total loss. We elevated the home, built a giant covered back porch facing the river and have restored it so it is now better than ever.

Winston Salem Properties
We've owned and operated Gray Court apartments with great friends Phil and Pam Neari since about 2000 as we watched Downtown Winston Salem come back to life. By 2012, Downtown W-S had become very alive with Great Culture, Music, Art, Food, Beverages and Fun. It is now wide open with great restaurants, music art and lots of new businesses and apartments. We decided it was past time to have a get away place there so we could enjoy the fun activities which are going on there constantly. You'll have the opportunity to enjoy all these great activities and more at our Downtown Winston Salem Getaways. You'll love the 5 minute walk to everywhere in Downtown Winston Salem from the Winston-Salem Dash baseball stadium to great restaurants, bars, galleries, shopping and more! We now have 2 great Airbnbs’s at Gray Court Apartments.
