Why Ellsworth?
-Yes, Bar Harbor gets all the hype. We know most people want to visit Acadia National Park, and you absolutely should! It is one of the most beautiful and amazing places in America. Ellsworth is considered the gateway to Acadia and Downeast Maine (coastal Maine) and provides very easy access to Acadia. Also, due to being so centrally located, Ellsworth provides the best access to many of the world famous beautiful coastal Maine towns such as Camden, Rockland, Winter Harbor, Bucksport, Belfast and Bath. You get the best of both worlds being in Ellsworth, having close proximity to Acadia and Bar Harbor, as well as the amazing coastal Maine towns.
-Ellsworth has the local Maine charm and isn't fully packed with tourists. It is a quiet and peaceful home base. There are so many wonderful and affordable restaurants, gift shops, antique stores, lobster shacks (one right down the street from the house), grocery stores, museums, breweries and an LL Bean outlet in Ellsworth. The Downeast Scenic Railroad is also stationed in Ellsworth, which consists of a beautiful train ride through the untouched Maine wilderness. The Ellsworth area has an abundant amount of hiking, ATV trails, ponds (lakes), waterways and winter activities.

The Jarvis Homestead is a year round destination. Whether it's is exploring Acadia in the summertime, experiencing the gorgeous Maine fall colors, or enjoying the relaxation/coziness and snow activities during the winter, our home is an opportunity to experience Maine like a true Mainer. You’ll also probably visit Acadia NP and Bar Harbor (we very much recommend you do – it’s only a 30min drive!), but we also hope you take the opportunity to experience other gorgeous Maine coastal towns. Our location is very centrally located and offers easy access to many beautiful attractions, plus an endless amount of hiking trails, lakes and ponds, rivers and ski hills. Inducted into the National Register of Historic Places by the USA, the Jarvis Homestead is a very special and historical place in the Downeast region of Maine. Once inhabited by the family of Hannibal Hamlin (Abraham Lincoln’s Vice President), the 7,500 sq ft that makes up the entire home has been immaculately cared for and beloved by the Ellsworth community for almost 200 years.

The house is located right off Main St (which can sometimes get busy during peak hours) and provides guests with an easy walk to the beautiful Union River (2 min walk) and adorable downtown Ellsworth (4 min walk).

The house consists of two different sections: i) the main house, built in 1828, it oozes character and showcases the grand and beautiful design and architecture of that era, and ii) the “cottage”, an addition of the house that is directly connected to the main house and gives more of a backwoods, cozy Maine cabin feel.

FIRST FLOOR: consists of the gorgeous double parlor living rooms (one with a 70” smart TV), the peaceful sun porch for morning coffee, the cozy library for reading and movies, the grand formal dining room for meals for the entire family, the original butlers pantry, and the fully functional/stocked main kitchen and laundry room

SECOND FLOOR: made up of seven beautiful bedrooms and three full bathrooms. Five of the bedrooms have one queen bed (three of these bedrooms have desks for working), one bedroom has two queen beds and a working desk, and the last bedroom has one full bed with a working desk as well

THIRD FLOOR/LOFT: dedicated to game and movie nights for the friends and families. It contains four twin beds (PLEASE NOTE: it gets quite hot up there but we have installed a portable AC for day time. It gets significantly cooler up there at night). There is a large smart TV, Mortal Kombat arcade game, a large game table to play the several different board games and puzzles provided, and an Xbox One with two controllers

COTTAGE: connected to the main kitchen and laundry room. This adorable area provides another living space with a desk and TV, a bedroom with a queen bed, one room with a twin bed, and a fully functional kitchen. The kitchen contains a fridges, stove and microwave (so across both kitchens, there are two fridges, stoves and microwaves)

OUTDOOR AREA AND POOL: provides relaxation, fun for family and friends, and a breath of fresh Maine air. Enjoy the refreshing private pool surrounded by nature, get competitive with one of the several lawn games, chat in the shade under the gazebo, warm up next to the propane fire pit at night, and cook dinner for the entire group with the fully equipped barbecue.

**The pool will open every year in the last week of May, and close in the second week of October, dependent on weather. We will try our best to accommodate everyone’s needs on the pool.
**Also, due to large amount of propane needed, the pool is heated to 72 degrees. But is usually warmer (76-80) in July-Sep from the natural sunlight. If guests would like the pool warmer throughout their stay, we can send over the simple instructions on how to increase pool temperature for a small fee ($15/day) to help with propane usage.
