Nestled near the village of Pensford overlooking the stunning Mendip foothills in the Chew Valley, Old Stables sits in extensive grounds with access to a luxury heated swimming pool with a hot tub, steam room and changing rooms.

Old Stables is located adjacent to East Wing (sleeps six + two) in ten acres of beautiful grounds. Originally built in 1800 as part of the Belluton Grange estate, the grounds retain many Georgian features, including a well and a rare Georgian Horse Wash, utilising a natural spring.

A hely
Gone are the horses and groom - instead you’ll find glorious accommodation for eight over four bedrooms, with a sofa bed and child’s bed available for up to three more guests if required (*extra fee). Retaining its original character, there is plenty of space for everyone to relax and dine together.

The Stables benefits from two reception rooms – the Garden Room with magnificent views, and a spacious sitting room with wood burner. A fully equipped open plan breakfasting kitchen is next to the living area. All of these rooms have French doors that lead onto the garden.

Upstairs are three luxury en-suite bedrooms, two with super king beds that can be made up as twins if required, and the third with a 5 ‘ king. Two have bathrooms with freestanding baths and separate showers., one has a shower room. The fourth bedroom is located downstairs and has full size bunk-beds and access to a downstairs washroom.

Discover the purpose built swimming pool complex housing a ten-metre pool hot tub, changing rooms and steam cubicle. Shared with guests at East Wing, the amenities are bookable for fully exclusive use in advance of your stay.

Outside the private terrace has ample seating for your party, with loungers, comfy chairs and a charcoal barbecue. The garden itself is shared with guests staying at East Wing and the owners.

We can also offer massages, aromatherapy treatments and personal trainer assessment which can be arranged by yourselves at an extra charge.

Guests have access to a laundry room (shared with East Wing) containing two washing machines, tumble dryers and an additional dishwasher in case of parties!

Garden Room/Conservatory with large Knole sofa (can convert into double bed*), underfloor heating, magnificent views across open countryside and French doors onto the extensive grounds.
Large open plan breakfasting kitchen with hand-made wooden units, granite worktops and a slate floor. French doors open onto the patio overlooking the landscaped garden. The large family table seats six to eight easily for jolly breakfasts with additional seating on stools around the central island that seats 8 more.
A large shared laundry room/boot room with two washing machines and tumble dryers lead off the kitchen, with additional dishwasher. Shared with East Wing, each property has a private locked access.
Damson bedroom with 3’ bunk beds and a bijou pull-out bed, and access to a small washroom with wc and wash basin off the hall, with low access height.
First floor:
Oak Suite - This double-aspect bedroom has views over the garden and open countryside. Comfortable zip and link super king bed (can convert to twin beds) with a bijou pull-out bed, arm chairs and TV. The en suite has a walk-in shower.
Chestnut Suite - The largest bedroom, with a comfortable zip and link super king bed (can convert to twin beds) with a bijou pull-out bed and TV. The en suite has a freestanding slipper bath, walk-in shower and his 'n' hers basins.
Silver Birch bedroom with comfortable 5’ bed, TV, and en suite with a freestanding bath and separate walk-in shower.

SWIMMING POOL COMPLEX
The purpose built swimming pool complex houses a ten-metre swimming pool with a 'Fluvo jet' to exercise against, a hot tub which seats 5 people (at a squeeze) a shower and steam cubicle, robes, slippers, spa towels and hair dryer. The temperature of the pool is 88 °F / 31 ° C and the temperature of the hot tub is 101 ° F / 38 ° C. Bring your own CDs, use those provided, or listen to the radio or Bluetooth; feel free to just sit in the pool room to read, relax or meditate.
Guests book sessions for exclusive use of the pool complex in advance of their stay. It is essential that you book time at the swimming pool spa complex to secure exclusive use, so that only your group will use the amenities. Due to popular demand, slots are limited, so prior to check-in, you can book one slot per day at 8am to 10am, 10:30am to 12:30pm, 1pm to 3pm, or 3:30pm to 5:30pm. There is another slot between 6pm to 10pm which is chargeable at £50 per day. After check-in, you can book one further free slot per day.
We can arrange personally approved people to offer you Massages, Aromatherapy Treatments and Personal Trainer Assessment which can be arranged by yourselves at an extra charge if required.

There’s plenty to keep you on site and lots of reasons to venture out into the beautiful Somerset countryside! Situated in Belluton, a hamlet on the B3130 near Pensford, Old Stables is within easy access to the A37 for travelling to the Georgian city of Bath and the home of Isambard Kingdom Brunel: Bristol. Both cities can be reached within 30 minutes.

Old Stables is also ideally situated for visiting the historic City of Wells, England's smallest city, with its ancient Cathedral, Bishop’s Palace and lovely market square with its twice weekly market.

Within easy reach are the impressive gorge and caves of Cheddar and Wookey Hole, historic Glastonbury, and the new designer outlet at Kilver Court.

Chew Valley is unique in the West Country, comprising some 35,000 acres of unspoilt and protected countryside which occupies the middle ground of the Bath, Bristol and Wells triangle. Dominating the south side of the valley are the foothills of the Mendip Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The valley contains both the Chew Valley and Blagdon Lakes, notably for their fishing, birdlife, sailing and nature study amenities. The villages in the Valley are all unspoilt and each has its individual charm and character.

There are several walks from the front door, including a stiff climb up to the Iron Age Hill fort atop Norton Malreward or a meander along the Chew Valley to see the Stanton Drew Standing Stones.

There is great food to be found at The Rising Sun in Pensford and ‘the Pelly’, The Lazy Lobster and The Bear and Swan in Chew Magna. If you are looking for gourmet dining, look no further than The Pig near Bath, four miles distant. Please note, you will need to make a reservation for The Pig well in advance.

Old Stables provides perfect group accommodation for guests attending weddings at The Pig near Bath, a nine minute taxi drive away. Weddings at Folly Farm, and Ston Easton Park can be reached within 11-15 minutes’ drive.
