Perched just before the top of a cliff, The Lookout is perfect for more adventurous eco travellers. Accessed by climbing the "Aztec" staircase (with a lift available for your luggage!), the Lookout commands one of the best views on the island.

Powered by solar energy and harvesting its own rainwater, the Lookout is a single 100 m2 space open 24 hours a day to the Saint Lucian natural environment and the spectacular views. Extremely private and totally unique, its the perfect getaway!

The Lookout's large open air platform includes sleeping, cooking and living areas as well as a bathroom with hand basin and wc. A flight of stairs leads down to the shower which is set in the wild coastal forest bordering the property.

Completely in harmony with its environment, the Lookout makes extensive use of salvaged or recycled materials. The generous kitchen is hand crafted from pallet wood salvaged from the local supermarket, as are the two sofas and easy chairs. The tables are made from solid local mahogany wood, sustainably procured and hand crafted. The railings are made from driftwood we personally collected from the beaches as is the bed which has four huge driftwood trees as pillars. Even the door frames are made from salvaged driftwood which gives each its unique shape requiring custom made doors from pallet wood.

The open plan area is open to the amazing views day and night with a mosquito net around the bed. The lifting doors which protect the inner part of the house are only lowered should a storm approach which is about twice a year. The roof is solid cement and hurricane proof and carries the solar panels.

We have partnered with a few local guides to offer off the beaten track experiences. We only work with local people, not with tour companies or agencies. Once you are booked we can send you a description as well as an information sheet to help you plan your stay in Saint Lucia. We can also recommend an excellent locally owned car rental company or send a local taxi to pick you up from the airport (the main advantage being that he knows the way to the house!).

Be warned that this opportunity is for the hard core eco traveller! You must be able to climb steep steps with no problem and be prepared to live in the open air (with a roof and mosquito net!) day and night. Your reward is the amazing views, the sunsets, rainbows and moonsets, the visiting birds, the noise of the forest and being away from it all!

15 minutes walk down the hill is Fisherman's Cove, a lovely secluded beach great for snorkelling. A few minutes further on is beautiful Marigot Bay with its cafes and restaurants, marina, boat hire, water taxis and watersports.

From March 2022, Sarah and Pablo will be returning to the UK and the Treehouse and Hummingbird Hangout will be managed by Martin and Annett who are as passionate about the environment as we are! Martin and Annett have lived for four years in Saint Lucia and have many tips and information about local life and experiences which they will be happy to pass on! They do not live on site but live in a cottage nearby and will be happy to meet arriving guests and help with any questions or issues you may have.
Unlike other local rentals, we use local wood as well as upcycled materials (pallet wood, driftwood, etc) to furnish and fit out our apartments. We never use pesticides or insecticides but use natural methods to reduce pests (for example we use fish ponds to reduce mosquitoes which have been very successful).
We also work directly in partnership with local people who want to help our guests discover their beautiful island. We do not do it ourselves as we would not be able to offer you the same insights and we do not go through tour agencies. These are local people we have met while living on the island.

Our neighbours Nina and Henning will meet you when you come and be on hand to answer any questions and solve any problems. They are professional property managers and will therefore take excellent care of you!
