About the house

We set the house up with our friends, family, and guests in mind. The first floor includes the kitchen with island, dining room, living room, work space/office and both bathrooms. Upon entering the home from the front door, there is an enclosed 3-season porch for hanging coats and removing shoes. The enclosed front porch has blinds for privacy or open the windows to bring the outdoors inside.

All 3 bedrooms are on the 2nd floor. For those who have mobility issues, the house was built in 1895 and the stairs to the bedrooms are steep. All of the bedrooms have portable fans. There is plenty of closet space in the bedrooms with queen beds and with hangars available. Two of bedroom include a night stand and dresser. The third bedroom includes 2 sets of pyramid bunk beds with full-sized beds on the bottom. The master bedroom has been fully modernized while the other two bedrooms still hold their charm. We have added power strips to the two smaller bedrooms because of limited electrical outlets. All of the windows upstairs have been modernized and allow for breezes when opened, but are lower and accessible by young children.

Both bathrooms are on the main floor. A hair dryer is available for use by our guests. There is an iron and ironing board provided and stored in the master bedroom closet. We have retained the older plumbing fixtures because of their uniqueness. Other than the kitchen, there is limited storage space on the 1st floor with only a small closet underneath the stairs. Cleaning supplies are available in this closet, under the sink in the kitchen, and under the sink in the 1/2 bath.

The kitchen is fully renovated and has all the necessities for your dining and cooking needs. We have provided a crock pot so your meals can be prepped in the morning and upon returning in the evening, your meals are ready to eat. There is a dining table able to comfortably seat 6. There is a large refrigerator able to store food during your stay. There is a gas stove and oven as well. Dish soap and cleaning supplies are available under the sink. Garbage service is provided by the City of Ironwood with a trash bin and recycle container as well.

The living room has a television with cable access and board games. There is plenty of seating available for entertaining or watching television. The heating thermostat can be adjusted for your comfort. There is an office off the dining room overlooking side yard an old apple tree and woods. The office includes a desk, chair, and a USB plug-in LED light.

There is a back porch that is used as a mud room to protect the hardwood floors before entering the house or sit back and enjoy the secluded back yard. There is a wood-fired sauna we will be making available in the future.

There are 5 director chairs and enjoy the tree-lined backyard that provides privacy when relaxing on the patio after a long, adventurous day or enjoy the small fire pit. In the late summer, watch as the deer come to feed on the fallen apples on the side yard. The lot is 100'x300' with plenty of room for recreational vehicles and trailers.

There is a 30x30 2-car garage should you decide to stow your vehicle or equipment. If you are using your own snow machines or ATVs, they can be stored in the garage and ready for you in the morning. We also have ski and snowboard racks in the garage.

The home is equipped with smart locks on the front door, the backside of the house into the enclosed back porch, and into the garage. A unique, temporary pass code is provided to each guest for safety. The front porch light will be on a smart-switch with scheduled programming to come on at sunset and off by 10:00 pm. We have added motion detector lights when accessing the house from the back. The lights in the front room will also be on a smart switch programmed for when guests arrive. There is a smart thermostat in the house the can be adjusted to your comfort. In between guests in the winter, the thermostat is left cooler to save energy.

Fall activities

Fall activities include many of the same things as the summer but with fall colors.

In the Fall, enjoy the cool, crisp air and the changing of the leaves at Copper Falls State Park or in the Porcupine Mountains. For photographers, capture the majestic beauty of Lake of the Clouds in the Porcupine Mountains. October and November are great months to see the Northern Lights on Lake Superior away from light pollution of the city. For those brave enough, visit the parks along Lake Superior in late fall and envision the Edmund Fitzgerald navigating the stormy waters during hurricane force winds and 35-foot waves. Enjoy the waterfalls, the hiking and bicycle trails available in the summer, but with colorful trees.

Spring many of the same things as the other seasons but with spring flowers.
