Nem megfelelő csecsemőknek (0–2 év). Részletek
Looking for a private place to get away and enjoy the beauty that is Interior Alaska . just a half mile walk in on a maintained trail; this dry, off grid, rustic cabin might be the spot.

Located out of town on 70 acres next to the BLM White Mountains in historic Chatanika; access to trails, exceptional views, and many recreational opportunities. Rustic accommodations, wood heat and a propane stove for cooking make this private cabin a great place to enjoy a variety of activities year round.

A hely
This is a dry cabin, which means that there is no plumbing. The cabin does not have a bathroom. Guests have access to a private outhouse on the property. We supply the cabin with water in jugs.
The cabin is also off grid, which means no electric. Battery powered lamps light the cabin. But please be aware you will be unable to plug in or charge electronics. Cell coverage in Alaska can be spotty, depending on your provider you may or may not have cell service.
The kitchen is equipt with basic cooking utensils, and ready for you to prepare and enjoy meals. There is also a BBQ so bring charcoal for grilling, or collect firewood for old school camp cooking on the fire-pit.
the upstairs sleeping loft is accessible by ladder and has a double bed. There is an additional downstairs sleeping area with 2 cots. Additional cots can be arranged and there is lots of floor space for camp mats to accommodate larger groups. There is also lots of tent space for even larger groups or events.
We can provide a cooler and ice packs for your groceries if you need. And we will provide cargo transport to the cabin for your personal gear, equipment and groceries, so you can enjoy the hike in.
There is excellent trail access right from your front door, including trails that follow the historic Davidson Ditch.
While staying at the Dew Claw Cabin your car will be safely parked at our house, with plug in for winter months.
We do not provide bug spray or bear spray - both of which you may want for a summer visit, and we do recommend them.

This area was very active during the Alaskan gold rush, and while exploring the area you are very likely to run into reminders from that time. In particular the Davidson Ditch and remains of the siphons and pipes can be seen on local trails.

This is also an excellent location to use as a base camp for hiking, mountain and fat biking, mushing or ski-joring, berry picking, nature photography, or birding. Or take advantage of the space and solitude to take time to read, write, indulge in some personal time to relax.

The Cabin is located adjacent to the BLM White Mountains. Chatanika River access is a mere 3 miles from the Cabin.

Mit használhatnak a vendégek?
Guests will have the entire cabin. Since it is a dry (without plumbing) cabin there is also a private outhouse.
Guests have access to a private trails that connect to a wider network of multi use trails.

Check in is at Dew Claw Kennel, and there is secure parking there.

The cabin has a small basic kitchen, a ladder leads to a loft with a double bed, and a downstairs sleeping area holds 2 cots. There is lots of floor space for camp mats, as well as tent sites at the cabin for larger groups.

Egyéb fontos dolgok
Area trails will take you to a few places where the historic Davidson Ditch is still visible, guest may enjoy learning about the history of 'Alaska's first pipeline'

"ALASKA'S FIRST PIPELINE
Named for James Davidson, a surveyor and engineer who mapped out its route, the Davidson Ditch was a 90-mile water conduit from multiple river drainages south of the Yukon River that terminated at the gold fields just north of the city of Fairbanks. It was part ditch and part steel pipe sections riveted together ranging in diameter from 46 to 56 inches. Pipe sections were supported by timber piling created from wood harvested at the site of the ditch. At its terminus was a pump house in Fairbanks built in 1933 that distributed the water to local hydraulic mining operations. Today, that building is a restaurant that proudly reflects is origins.

Built to supply water to gold mining dredges in the Interior, the ditch was the first large-scale pipeline construction project in Alaska. The first crews began clearing the right-of-way for the ditch in April 1926. Roughly paralleling the Steese Highway, ditch workers also acted as road crews because the Territory of Alaska did not maintain the roadway before June 1 of each year. A handful of work camps were established along the route to house workers. The construction project concluded May 18, 1928, when the first water flowed into the pipeline. It was used on and off until it was abandoned in 1967 due to economic conditions and historic flooding in the Fairbanks area. Lessons learned in its construction were applied to the building of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System some 50 years later. Though abandoned, part of the pipeline is preserved because it transversed the White Mountains National Recreation Area. It can still be viewed from an observation point at 57.3 mile on the Steese Highway.

The Davidson Ditch was finished ahead of scheduled but over budget. In total, the project cost $1,773,841 to build, about $100,000 more than its anticipated price of $1,662,894."

Elhelyezkedés

Fairbanks, Alaszka, Egyesült Államok

It is about an hours drive from Fairbanks to Dew Claw kennel, but you may want to take longer and explore the highway. Traffic is minimal, and there is no cell service for most of the trip, keep an eye out for moose, especially in the ponds on the side of the road. The Steese Highway is paved and plowed. The Milepost is an excellent guide to driving in Alaska, and they have detailed information for the Steese Highway. (can be found in print or online)

Here is a guide listing some spots of interest on your drive out.

The local Chatanika Lodge offers up great burgers with an extra helping of local flavor. Wander around the lodge and check out the taxidermy collection, memorabilia, and the classic convertible. And take a walk over to the Gold Dredge #3
*Note Lodge is closed on Tuesdays.

If you are interested in learning more about the area Fairbanks Artist Ray Bonell has some very good blog posts about the history of Chatanika.
