You’ll be glamping in your own private studio, with perfectly preserved 1950 charm. Our cozy cottage compound is right in the middle of everything East End, and a short drive from local beaches, restaurants and shopping. It’s the perfectly unpretentious way to enjoy the Hamptons. Bright colors abound, the yard is filled with teak loungers and patio furniture, and there's always a hammock ready for an afternoon snooze.

A hely
An adorable tiny house on a quiet, secluded cul de sac. The house has all the amenities you could hope for, including a large (half-acre) private yard, hammocks, fenced vegetable garden, bikes, a six-person hot tub, outdoor shower, surfboard storage, Weber gas grill, dining patio and more.

It's two miles to both ocean and sound beaches. The closest are the gorgeous Egypt and Wiborg beaches in East Hampton Village. You can get there easily by bicycle, and I have a fleet of bikes that you can borrow.

Centrally located, the house is a mile from the main shopping district in East Hampton, a 10-minute drive to Amagansett, 15-minute drive to Sag Harbor and Bridgehampton and 20 minutes to Montauk. There are nearby farm stands, seafood shacks, tennis courts, parks, hiking trails, and all the other cultural and social attractions of the East End.

I’m a journalist, musician and tinkerer who loves to spend time at the house with my girlfriend Linda. I’m either fixing and improving the property, surfing in Montauk, hitting local tag sales, riding my vintage BMW motorcycle or whipping up a fantastic meal with locally sourced produce. We share the main cottage with our housemate Franco and his adorable pup Zak.

Your private studio has everything you need for a relaxing stay. While it boasts plenty of vintage charm, almost everything has been updated or renovated for modern convenience. The bathroom is a small wet room with a shower built in. The vintage water heater takes a good 20 minutes to produce lukewarm water, but you may also use the spacious and luxurious enclosed outdoor shower. The kitchen has basic essentials, including plates, silverware, glasses, napkins and towels, along with a microwave, electric kettle, French press for coffee and hot plate. You’ll need to bring all your own ingredients. You are welcome to use the Weber gas grill with auxiliary burner for any more ambitious cooking or barbecuing. There’s high speed Internet access and a Bluetooth speaker for music.

I’m an avid surfer, so I’m happy to provide all the information you need for equipment, rentals, lessons and shops, as well as the best way to get to a break that matches your skill set.

It's the perfect place for a relaxing getaway or a full-featured long-term stay in East Hampton.

East Hampton, New York, Egyesült Államok

A very quiet (except for the local rooster) and pastoral neighborhood less than a five-minute drive from the center of East Hampton.

Originally from Los Angeles, I've lived in NYC since 1995, almost always in Brooklyn, including Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, Prospect Heights and Park Slope. Just over a decade ago, I bought a little cottage in East Hampton, so I’d have a place to get away from the city and indulge a maniacal desire to surf as much as possible. Little by little over the years, I’ve been spending more time in East Hampton and less time in the city. Now that my son has turned 18 and started his first year of a BFA at Parsons/The New School, country life is more and more appealing. When I'm out East, I love riding my vintage BMW motorcycle and going surfing (longboards only) at Ditch Plains. I also love that it's always easy to find an open (and free) tennis court. I'd be happy to share some of my secret spots where you can really get away from the crowds -- and traffic. For 25 years, I’ve worked as a journalist, culture critic and editor, starting at the LA Times as an intern and most recently at TIME magazine, where I was the Culture Editor. In between I accomplished what I’ve dubbed the “Tabloid Trifecta,” working as an arts and culture writer and editor at Newsday on Long Island, followed by the Daily News and New York Post in Manhattan. I'm a longtime musician, and I've played in loads of bands. Most as a singer or guitarist. You can find recordings by my last band, Caramelize, on YouTube and Apple Music. Nowadays I do a lot of old-school country blues fingerpicking, influenced by Mississippi John Hurt, Skip James and Rev. Gary Davis. If you need any advice on where to see great music, I'd be happy to help. I love my little house and I enjoy having people over to share it. I especially like meeting new people and hope you'll make yourself "at home" as much as you like. I used to rent out rooms in the cottage, but in March of 2021, I found a 1950 Ironwood 32 “trailer coach” for sale just outside of Flint, Michigan. I saw a great opportunity to create a unique space that would offer guests more privacy and autonomy than a room in the house ever could. The Ironwood trailer had been in the same family for 70 years and the interior was nearly perfect. I spent three months repairing major structural damage caused by water leaks, including a rebuild of the entire back end and rotted-out portions of the flooring near the doors. Now all that’s left is to slowly clean off 70 years of oxidation, old paint and dried-out caulking, with an eye toward polishing the aluminum to a mirror-like finish. I hope you’ll enjoy the exquisite beauty and charm of East Hampton. There really is something for everyone here, whether you love the ocean, shopping, hiking, bar-hopping, golfing, dining, history, art or just plain old socializing. The vintage, streamline design of the Ironwood is sure to add a one-of-a-kind accent to your trip.
