Talkeetna Basecamp is an off-the-grid homestead accessible year-round by car. Views from the property of Denali and the Alaska Range are incredible. The cabin has a full kitchen and modern utilities. Enjoy the sauna & greenhouse. Owners are retired park rangers.

A hely
Talkeetna Basecamp opened for business in May 2016.

Camp 1, the private guest cabin, has one bedroom with queen-size bed and dresser. Friends, family and now guests rave about the comfort of the bed. Two large windows look out into the peaceful, undeveloped woodlands surrounding the cabin. THE CABIN IS PERFECT FOR TWO PEOPLE BUT A PULL-OUT FULL SIZED SOFA BED IN THE LIVING AREA PROVIDES ADDITIONAL SLEEPING CAPACITY. The kitchen has a refrigerator, microwave, gas oven and cooktop. We provide quality cookware, china, utensils and a variety of staples such as quality coffee and teas, spices, cooking oils, and sundries (foil, cleaning products etc.). The dining area table seats four. The single bathroom has a tiled shower, sink and toilet. Cedar boards line the interior of the nearby outhouse for guests who want to bypass the cabin toilet and try a true Alaska experience!

Basecamp has Wi-Fi and 4G LTE cellular phone service. Guests are welcome to use their phone hotspot for wireless network service.

Sauna: Cabin guests have private and exclusive use of the wood-fired sauna. The sauna has lower and upper outside sitting decks for cool downs and reflection. Both decks offer spectacular views of Denali and the mountains of the Alaska Range - weather dependent of course. If guests need help starting or maintaining a fire in the sauna wood stove, we'll show you how or do it for you.

Guests are invited to sit in the greenhouse or Atrium and walk through the outdoor gardens. It takes a little more planning and effort , but one can grow garden crops in Alaska!

Parking: We offer overnight parking for motorhomes and large RV's with hook-ups available for water (seasonal) and power. Talkeetna Basecamp has plenty of available year-round parking space for our guests. We can accommodate two SUV/truck type vehicles with trailers. Trailers need to be backed into parking areas; we don't have a pull through turn-around. We also offer short term storage for boats, snowmobiles, kayaks and other "toys" you might bring along.

The guest cabin does not have a washer or dryer. However, for a modest charge we provide laundry service for our guests.

Mit használhatnak a vendégek?
The entirety of Talkeetna Basecamp's 5 acres and facilities are available to guests (except for the cabin where Martha and I live). Cabin guests have exclusive use of our wood-fired sauna and campfire circle; both look out at Denali, the other great peaks of the Alaska Range and the endless expanse of the Susitna River Valley.

Hike, stroll, ski, snowmobile, bird-watch, or fish right outside of the door of your cabin.

Both the greenhouse and outdoor gardens are available to Basecamp guests. Sit in the Atrium between the greenhouse and the sauna; put on your favorite music and enjoy the serene setting.

Egyéb fontos dolgok
Talkeetna Basecamp is 16 miles by road from the village of Talkeetna. It takes 20 minutes to drive to "town". The drive is easy and beautiful. Be watchful for moose and other wildlife, particularly between Talkeetna Basecamp and the Talkeetna Spur road.

There are numerous lodging establishments to choose from in or closer to the village of Talkeetna. The crowded nature of Talkeetna during the summer and the noise from trains, tour buses and aircraft can diminish the sense of an authentic Alaska experience that some seek. While we highly recommend visiting and experiencing all that Talkeetna has to offer, we provide a special lodging alternative to the hustle and bustle of town.

A 10 minute walk down the gravel road from Basecamp is a broad wetland and pond. Mew gulls and sandhill cranes nest in these areas in the summer. The screeching call of a sandhill is a wild sound once heard will not soon be forgotten. Take a swim in the pond during the summer. Mountains of the Talkeetna Range provide a beautiful backdrop.

Various gravel roads in the area have very low traffic and are quite nice to walk on. There are also a multitude of easily walkable "use trails" that we use regularly. We'd be happy to show you where they are.

There are very few permanent homes in the area. Small weekend get-away cabins prevail; most are used infrequently and few are visible from the roads. Yup, we're out in the "boonies".

Martha and Peter are your hosts at Talkeetna Basecamp. Peter retired in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) after a 38 year career working as a park ranger with the National Park Service. He served as the Chief Park Ranger of Denali National Park and Preserve from (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) until (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) He started his career as a backcountry/climbing ranger in Colorado's Rocky Mountain National. Subsequent assignments took him to Yosemite, Grand Teton and Isle Royale National Parks. Peter specialized in search and rescue throughout his time with the National Park Service. He developed a revolutionary new helicopter rescue technique in Grand Teton which earned him the Hal Foss Award, the highest annual award presented by the National Association for Search and Rescue. In a formal (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) ceremony in Washington DC, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar presented Peter with the prestigious Harry Yount Award. This peer-nominated award represents the highest honor a National Park Service ranger can aspire to. In (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) , the Discovery Channel asked us to participate in an episode of their "Buying Alaska" series. We did it for grins and giggles and got paid gas and lunch money for three long days of shooting. How generous! One can still find our episode with a (Hidden by Airbnb) search. As Martha and I concluded afterwards, take such reality tv shows with a large grain of salt. We already owned the featured cabin at the time of filming(!) and had done all the construction work on everything shown in the video! Of course we had to rave about it and choose it.
