Mit fogsz csinálni?

You will learn the process of making maple syrup from sap. Since it is off season you will be able to see the evaporator only boil water. I will guide you through a tasting of this years syrup and explain how to grade maple syrup. We will then try some sugar on ice! You will leave with a mini bottle of maple syrup to take home and a experience you will never forget! Maple sap runs when the days are above 38 degrees and the nights are below freezing. If the sap is not running, I can boil water and for the class so if the dates that we have listed don't work for your time frame, just send me an email and I can see if we can find another time for your truly Vermont experience. We will have a maximum of 10 people since the sugar house is small - we are not a giant production house that does thousand of gallons per year. Children under 5 are free. We at most make 50 gallons, most of which I bottle in my handblown glass!

I have been producing small-batch award-winning Taft Hill Farm maple syrup for more than 25 years. Come have a tour of our maple bush and sugar house, and taste our maple syrup. Our mountain-top farm is nestled along Sadawga Brook and has old-growth maple trees that have been here for 250+ years. Taft Hill Farm got its name from Peter Rawson Taft, the grandfather of President William Howard Taft. Alphonso Taft was born at the farm in 1810 and was President Taft's father. I have been farming this land since 1993 and I love to share my passion for farming in all seasons.

A szervezetről

West River Community Project

The West River Community Project, housed in the West Townshend Country Store on Route 30 in West Townshend Vt, was established in 2010 to help foster the revitalization of our community in the West River Watershed. First, we wanted to create a public place to gather, make music, celebrate events and show art. We wanted to support sustainability and local development in the local foods movement.

Ez egy társadalmilag hasznos élmény, amelynek esetén az általad fizetett összeg 100%-át a(z) West River Community Project kapja.

Hol lesztek?

We will meet at the sugar house by the side of the brook. Look for a white pick-up truck with a Parking sign on the back. It is on the left side of the road 1/4 mile before you come to our farm house. We'll take a look at our sugar bush and see how sap comes of the trees. Potential bonus side trip: we may have some newborn lambs/calfs that we can visit in our nearby pasture if you are interested.
